Making Safety A Priority
We take driver safety very seriously. Our drivers are our number one asset, and we understand that in the trucking and transportation industry there is risk everywhere. Truckers carry a huge responsibility for their safety and the safety of others. Below is a list of our safety priorities. Join us in mitigating the risk!
Be aware of your surroundings
Our number one suggestion to every driver is to always be aware of your surroundings. That includes other drivers, pedestrians, other trucks in the yard, and other workers on foot. As a driver, you are in control of a 40-ton deadly weapon. When on foot, however, you are your own first line of defense.
No speeding
Driving your truck above the speed limit or at a speed too fast for conditions is far too risky. A Large Truck Crash Causation Study (LTCCS) conducted by the FMCSA and the NHTSA notes that “driving too fast for conditions” was the second largest associated factor in their study period with 23 percent of the total risk. We hold our drivers to a high standard of quality and guide them to follow all posted speed limits. In a delivery yard, we advise drivers to drive under ten mph and use their best judgment for when lower speeds are required.
Truck maintenance
A well-maintained truck is a safe truck. Our trucks are on a regular maintenance schedule to ensure that no serious situations arise. People and drivers in the area around the truck need to be able to see the turn signals and headlights while hearing an audible backup alert.
Proper lifting techniques
The first thing you want to do is stand close to the object with your feet at a wide stance. Squat down by bending at the hips and knees with your ears, shoulders, and hips forming a nearly straight line. Tighten your stomach muscles and then let your legs do the lifting. Use the same form to set an object down.
